Great to meet you all !

For me it all began with my parents telling me things like "do unto others as you would have others do unto you", "put yourself in their shoes" and "share what you have". Then there was International travel, which made it real for me; seeing with my own eyes how lucky we are when so many others have little or nothing.

A trip to Thailand a few years back totally humbled me and made me realize that I need to do something to help those less fortunate. The people of the hill tribe villages were such welcoming and warm people when they barely had a roof over their head or knew where their next meal was coming from. The children’s faces would light up with joy when you handed them a gift of something as small as a pencil or a bouncy ball. It started to bring everything into perspective for me.

I don’t have any “hands on” experience in International Community Development, but am looking forward to learning and hearing stories from those of you who have. My hope is to be able to get more involved. One of the most rewarding things I have done is to sponsor two children and I am truly grateful that I am able to help. I actively volunteer whenever I can with World Vision and have also volunteered with Samaritan’s Purse.

My goals for this course are to expand my knowledge on International Community Development in hopes that I will be able to figure out how I can contribute to changing the world for the better and also to get to know people who share the same passions and goals.  I am excited to get started !!
